This workshop will rejuvenate the mind and body, open the lungs and give you a better understanding of the biomechanics and therapeutic effects of spinal extensions.
What is Iyengar yoga?
Whatever your practice is you can gain some benefit from even one class of Iyengar yoga. Iyengar yoga is a grounding style of hatha yoga founded by BKS Iyengar, one of the foremost contemporary yoga teachers in the world, who studied under the legendary Krishnamarchaya. All modern yoga schools that focus on therapeutics and bio-mechanics have their roots in this powerful lineage.
Iyengar yoga emphasizes alignment and precision, using props like bolsters, blocks, straps, ropes etc to support and express the essence of each asana.
Each class is different and structured to explore a particular kind of pose/movement. Not only does this make it safer to go deeper into poses but you can really feel the internal form and flow of each asana. This focus on alignment not only has tremendous therapeutic effects on the biomechanics of the body but also deeper subtle benefits on the mind/body connection.
This workshop is open to all levels.
Beginners will benefit from learning in a structured and supported manner using props to explore deep poses safely.
More experienced practitioners can challenge their mind and body to deeper levels of alignment.
For all traditions:
Whether you practice Ashtanga Vinyasa or Kundalini, the Iyengar method can enrich your understanding of the relationships between the body’s stability and strength (sthira) and it’s comfortable ease and space(Sukkha)
